Job description:
Conservation Corps North Bay provides professional job and educational development opportunities for youth ages 11-28 years old through a variety of environmentally focused community service based programs. The Recycling and Environmental AmeriCorps Program (REAP) department operates a multifaceted recycling collection and education program and an environmental restoration and community service AmeriCorps program. CCNB operates an extensive recycling collection program that is vital to agencies that manage Marin’s parks and preserved lands. Over 300,000 pounds of beverage containers and paper is collected each year from 350 collection points around the County. In addition, CCNB’s corpsmembers outreach and educate thousands of students, businesses, and community volunteers about recycling and environmental stewardship.
The Recycling Staff Driver is responsible for the completion of daily routes, special event collections, and recycling bin maintenance. The Driver is responsible for safety and operation inspections of vehicles and other equipment every day. The Driver is accompanied by 1-2 assistant corpsmembers each day on set routes that span Marin and Sonoma Counties. The Driver supervises the assistants on the route and ensures that safe work practices are followed at all times. During the routes, the drivers track specific information about the bins and route on paper or hand-held electronic device and report route problems to the supervisor.
CCNB provides recycling services to over a dozen special events throughout the year. Some events require Drivers to staff events on weekend days and supervise corpsmember assistants during the event. In addition to recycling route collection, the Driver and assistants sort recyclables into various material types on a daily basis and periodically performs routine maintenance on recycling bins in the field, constructs bins recycling bins at CCNB’s Shop, and participates in other projects as assigned. Some other projects may include public outreach about recycling, community service projects, and recycling collection data aggregation.
The Driver is expected to support the Supervisor in maintaining a safe and positive learning and motivating environment for corpsmember enrolled in CCNB’s program and act as a role model at all times. In addition, the Driver is a expected to professionally represent CCNB and the recycling program when encountering sponsors and the public during any project.
Duties and responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Route Assignments and Special Projects:
* Supervise corpsmember assistants assigned to routes and other projects, including weekend special events and recycling sorting
* Ensure safety procedures are followed on routes and during other projects
* Lead recycling bin set up, collection and breakdown during weekend special events
* Perform routine and special maintenance on recycling bins using hand power tools
* Provide a safe and positive working environment for corpsmembers assisting with projects
* Represent CCNB professionally with sponsors and during all projects
Administration:
* Complete vehicle safety and operation inspection paperwork at the start of each day
* Complete route data collection on paper and/or hand-held electronic device for every route and special event
* Assist with the set up of new recycling clients and tracking of new recycling bin locations
* Participate in weekly meetings with Supervisor to plan and strategize for recycling program
* Support Supervisor in the motivation and development of corpsmembers participating in CCNB’s training program

* Class C, California Driver License with one point or less on DMV record
* Ability to be reliable and willing to limit vacation time during program’s busy period (May 1st - October 31st). Vacation requests with 2-weeks notice will be approved in relation to other staff requests and time of year.
Education and experience: High School Diploma or GED and/or appropriate amount of previous work experience

Other situations include sitting at a desk using a computer and in meetings; driving or riding in a flat bed truck for long periods of time; exiting and entering the truck frequently to collect recycling material; intermittently twist to reach equipment surrounding desk and climbing ladder to flat bed truck.
Compensation: $11/hour; 40 hours a week and full benefits (medical, dental, vision)Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m. most weeks and some scheduled weekend special events required throughout the year
